Coming Soon: The 2027 Eclipse Sportback, Mitsubishi's Electric Debut

Mitsubishi is about to add a name nobody's heard before. The 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV marks the brand's newest all-electric subcompact SUV, set to land across North America in early fall 2026. Built on the next-generation Nissan LEAF through Mitsubishi's Alliance partnership, it brings a fresh design, flexible charging options, and a real step forward in the brand's electrification plans.
Plug Into More Places
Charging flexibility is one of the most interesting parts of the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV. Every model will come standard with North American Charging System (NACS) compatibility, providing access to the Supercharger network. It will also feature a J1772 connection for Level 1 and Level 2 charging, giving owners practical options for charging at home and elsewhere.
A Coffee Break Can Add Serious Charge
When connected to a compatible Level 3 charger, the Eclipse Sportback EV can accept charging at up to 150 kW. Mitsubishi estimates that its battery can go from 10% to 80% in approximately 35 minutes, although actual charging times will depend on factors such as temperature, battery condition, and the available power source.
Built Around a 75-kWh Battery
Underneath the new SUV is a standard 75-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Mitsubishi uses liquid cooling to support charging efficiency, maximize driving range, and promote long-term battery life. More detailed driving-range and performance figures are expected closer to launch.
A New Face for Mitsubishi's Electric Future
The Eclipse Sportback EV won't simply borrow another model's appearance. Mitsubishi says it will receive unique front and rear fascias, distinctive lighting signatures, sporty alloy wheels, and Triple Diamond branding, creating its own identity within the lineup.
